The last month has really been a great month for my swing. I have discovered a thing called tempo, which then led me to something called good ball striking. That combined with the changes that I have made to get my swing more upright have led to some consistancy that I have not had before. I was able to shoot a 78 last weekend without any shots that I would really consider spectacular. Instead, it was a collection of shots that produced close birdie opportunities. Smooth tempo has got to be the most important thing I have even learned about golf. My short game has been getting better recently as I've started taking a better measure of where on the "clock" I need to stop my backswing to produce the desired carry yardage. I've also gotten more in control of my drives since the last round. I found that my hips were beating my upper body to the ball excessively and that was causing me to fail to extend, resulting in a snap hook. I'm really looking forward to what the next few weeks holds.
It's taken me a while to get my review of the match play posted, but hey, I've been busy working on my golf swing! I'm already looking forward to going next year. The match play is sort of a different animal from the crowded FBR. You could get a reasonable view even following tiger and more of the fans were there to see golf than to socialize. The course was in immaculate condition, but unfortunately, it is difficult to walk and keep up with your group. This is due to the way that they run the cartpath across many of the holes, so the officials stop you to allow the golfers to go by. Seeing the top golfers in the world was a great experience. It is remarkable how in control they are in all aspects of their game. The driving range was the most interesting thing for me. I learned alot just watching them. It was definitely worth the trip. The match between Tiger and Baddely was awesome!
I met up with Mr. Bishop today for my 2nd lesson! We went back over the things from the first lesson, including grip, posture, etc, and then started talking about the pre-shot routine and the finish. Here is a video Mr. Bishop recorded where he talks about the pre-shot routine:
I met up with Steve Bishop last night and had a 1 hour training session. We focused mainly on the grip and posture. Here is a video Mr. Bishop did explaining the neutral grip:
Steve and I had our first golf lesson donated today! We worked on various things, focusing mainly on tempo, grip, and alignment. The instructors name is also "Steve" and we are currently working on the details of his sponsorship!
